Following the success of their Environment Day clean-up on 6 June, Delphis Eco and BM Caterers recently returned to Vauxhall Park for another litter-picking initiative – proving that environmental action shouldn’t be limited to just one day.
The ‘beach clean’ cleared some 25 bags of rubbish from the 8.5 acre, Green Flag award-winning municipal park in Vauxhall, South London, run by Lambeth Council. The Park is a popular venue for local residents and families.
Founder and Chief Sustainability Officer Mark Jankovich commented: “Litter picking on Environment Day shouldn’t be a one-off. Every day is a chance to protect our planet – and when we act together, we create real impact. These clean-ups are simple but powerful ways of showing we care.”
Once again, volunteers came together at Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, armed with gloves and litter bags, determined to raise awareness and take direct action against waste in public spaces.
These efforts highlight an important truth that even small actions can have a big environmental impact. Litter left in parks or on streets often makes its way into waterways, eventually polluting the ocean. Marine animals frequently mistake plastic and waste for food or become entangled in it, leading to injury or death.
By removing even a single piece of litter, individuals help break this harmful cycle. Clean-ups not only improve local environments, but also inspire others to be more mindful of their waste and its effects.
The team encourages everyone to take responsibility – whether at the park, on the beach or in everyday life. Picking up litter is a simple yet powerful act of environmental stewardship. As Mark put it: “Let’s clean up and save the sea, one piece of litter at a time.”
