Ormiston Victory Academy has chosen 170 Mechanical Hands-Free roll towel dispensers and Orbit toilet roll dispensers from Northwood Hygiene’s North Shore premium proprietary system of washroom dispensers and consumables.
The academy, which provides secondary and sixth form education for more than 1400 pupils at its site in Costessey, Norwich, was keen to reduce hand towel waste in its classrooms and science laboratories, to help the organisation to save money and reduce impact on the environment. It approached its hygiene supplier, Hugh Crane Cleaning Equipment, to recommend a system to replace the dispensers it had been using and deliver improved hygiene and cost in use across its campus.
The academy had originally been using C-Fold towels, but it was keen to use a less wasteful option because these towels don’t always open when dispensed, meaning users can often take multiple towels to dry their hands, thus encouraging overuse. It trialled the Mechanical Hands-Free roll towel dispensers from Northwood’s North Shore range and was impressed with the results, so much so that it immediately ordered 30 more dispensers for the site.
James Pitts, Site Manager at Ormiston Victory Academy, said: “The North Shore system is working brilliantly. Since installing, we have halved the consumption of paper, which has, of course, halved costs across the site.”
The hard-wearing dispensers dispense one-ply, 100 recycled blue hand towels, which hygienically dry hands whilst also supporting the academy’s mission to reduce wastage and become more sustainable by using recycled material where possible.
The academy was also having problems with toilet roll blockages in the washroom, which were unpleasant for users and time consuming for staff to fix. The solution was to install 130 North Shore Orbit toilet roll dispensers, which dispense 2-ply 100% recycled toilet roll. Flushable and designed to break down to avoid costly and inconvenient blockages, the North Shore toilet roll is made using 100% recycled material with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
James added: “Before, the site team was having to unblock at least two manholes twice a week, and this has dropped to us only having to lift the manholes twice for blockages since they were installed. The paper’s fast dissolving properties, compared to the centrefeed, is much more impressive, leading to fewer issues for maintenance.”
As well as virtually eliminating the problem of blockages, Orbit has helped to provide effective cost in use and reduce wastage. Ensuring 100% of the paper is used, the 5,000-sheet capacity Orbit toilet roll dispenser prevents free-rolling of the paper, whilst ‘stub roll transfer’ only allows access to the next roll once the current one has been used. Designed to control use to ensure zero waste and maximum cost efficiency, the high-capacity dispensers also reduce the need for frequent maintenance visits by staff to top up paper.
North Shore has been designed to deliver impressive volume in use and it is both economical and environmentally sustainable, making it ideal for educational settings. North Shore also offers industry-leading capacity, as well as being durable, hygienic and stylish.
Constructed from highly durable ABS to minimise any damage that may be caused in use, the North Shore dispensers are lockable to keep their contents securely stored within. They are also easy to install and re-stock, and feature clear inspection windows so the academy’s maintenance team can see at a glance if they need refilling.
