WCEC annual Military Awards Ceremony honours our forces
Published on 03/11/2014
The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners (WCEC) celebrated their annual Military Awards Ceremony last month, paying tribute to the work and achievements of Environmental Health Technicians (EHTs) from the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC), the RAF Environmental Health Cadre and the WCEC’s affiliated Cadet Units.
Promoting and maintaining health and the prevention of disease are the main tasks of EHTs – which is vital for military units, wherever they are in the world. The job involves advising on all aspects of environmental health, health and safety, occupational hygiene and environmental protection, both in the barracks and under field conditions at home and abroad.
The WCEC supports this education and training as part of its mission to maintain high standards of practice and integrity within the cleaning industry.
Lance Corporal Adelle Tudor and Staff Sergeant Jonathon Widdall were given the Junior and Senior NCO EHT Awards respectively, while Major Charles Melley received the Territorial Army EHT Award.
Captain Tom Smedley was given the Post Graduate Medical Officers General Practice Award, while Corporal Natalie Tranter, Lance Corporal Scott Gates, Corporal Anil Campbell and Cadet Jalen Ikezue were also awarded.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a cheque, as part of the WCEC’s annual financial support to its affiliates. Major General Jeremy Rowan, Director General Army Medical Services; Lee Nolan, Officer in Command, T.S. Narvik; Colonel Simon Ettinghausen, Commandant SELACF (Greater London South East Sector Army Cadet Force); and Wing Commander Bob Naeem, Officer Commanding, London Wing ATC, accepted the donation jointly.
Issa Tahhan, Master of the WCEC, said: “The Military Awards are rightly seen as one of the highlights of WCEC calendar, and this year’s event proved to be another great success. Hearing the stories of each winner is a humbling and inspiring experience for everyone. I have the greatest admiration for all the people recognised by the 2014 awards, because of the sheer determination and unwavering dedication they have shown to their invaluable work.”
