WCEC shines light on military excellence

The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners has held their annual Military Awards, an event dedicated to shining a light on the achievements of servicemen, women and cadets.

The event took place at London’s Trinity House on 19 September, and accommodated more than 100 guests. The awards recognise the work and achievements of Environmental Health Technicians (EHTs) from the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and the RAF Environmental Health Cadre, as well as the WCEC’s affiliated Cadet Units.

Maureen Marden, Master of The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, began the ceremony with her introductory speech. She said: “This awards ceremony is a celebration of our servicemen and women and of our affiliated cadet units to recognise excellence and allows us to demonstrate our admiration for their intrepid efforts. It is a happy occasion that we should all enjoy.”

A minute’s silence followed, to remember those servicemen and women who have given their lives.

Representatives from the armed forces, Lt. Colonel Gareth Moore, Squadron Leader Peter Crass, Commander James Nisbet, Colonel Desmond Smith and Lieutenant Leroy Smith were called to the stage to announce the award winners:

Captain Stephanie Chase – RAMC General Practice Award
Staff Sergeant Tony Keenan – RAMC Senior NCO EHT Award
Corporal Naomi Benson – RAMC Junior NCO EHT Award
Sergeant Andrew Hobern – RAF EHT Award
Captain James Johnson – Reserve Forces EH Award
Cadet Corporal Adam French – Best Air Cadet 2018 Award
Cadet Able Seaman Amy Bishop – Best Sea Cadet 2018 Award
Cadet Lance Corporal Rishi Cadogan – Francis – Best Army Cadet 2018 Award

Towards the end of the ceremony presentations of donations were made to Colonel Graham Johnson – Commander Medical 1st Division, Commander James Nisbet – Area Officer London Marine and Sea Cadets, Colonel Desmond Smith – Commandant South East London Army Cadet Force and Flight Lieutenant Leroy Smith – Officer Commanding 50F (Camberwell and Lambeth) Air Training Corps, as part of the WCEC’s annual financial support to its affiliates.

The Master finalised the event with her concluding speech: “The Company is delighted to have been able to make these presentations today which recognise a very high standard of skill, knowledge and dedication and all the award winners should be justly proud of their achievements as we have heard in the details of their citations.”

A huge congratulations to all the award winners.
