RP Adam Ltd Welcomes Callum Kerr MP to Selkirk Factory Base

Calum Kerr, MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk (second from left), met with Robin Leith, Lee-Anne Gillie and Martin Carroll, RP Adam Technical Director, to mark the company’s recent accrediation as a Scottish Living Wage employer.

RP Adam Ltd welcomed Calum Kerr, MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, to its group headquarters in Selkirk to mark the company’s recent accreditation as a Scottish Living Wage employer and its endorsement of The Scottish Business Pledge. RP Adam made a commitment to both Government-led initiatives earlier this year as part of the year-long celebrations of its 125th year of operation.

The Scottish Business Pledge is a partnership between Government and business geared to boosting productivity, competitiveness, sustainable employment and workforce development. As a primary requirement of the pledge, the Living Wage accreditation recognises employers for paying all their staff a fair wage – which is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually based on the cost of living in the UK.

Welcoming Mr Kerr, Managing Director, Robin Leith, said: “2016 has been a hugely significant year for our company, and I am delighted to share some of our anniversary milestones with our local Borders’ MP. As well as marking 125 years of operation, we have also made a significant major investment in the business both financially and also in our role as a responsible and caring employer.

“Both our accreditation as a Living Wage employer and our adoption of the Scottish Business Pledge make a powerful statement about future ambition here in Selkirk and across the UK, recognising our role in the local and wider community as a significant employer and supporter of sustainable business growth. We are also aware that our continued growth and development can also help tackle some of the bigger issues facing our world today, which is why we are supporting them in their continued fight against child hunger and poverty on our own doorstep.”

UK Operations Director, Lee-Anne Gillie also used the MP’s visit to highlight the commitment made by Arpal Group (RP Adam Ltd) this year to the Meals & More scheme, a charitable programme spearheaded by major distributor The Brakes Group, aimed at tackling child poverty across the UK. She said: “We reported in August of this year from a base of 40 plus clubs operating currently, the aim is to have 500 operating by 2020 for 13 holiday weeks of the year – this would see 4.55 million children fed.”
