Rentokil Initial Colleagues Cycle To Paris For Malaria No More UK

The team of 19 cyclists from Rentokil Initial rode from their headquarters in Camberley to Paris, raising money for Malaria No More UK.

On Thursday 28 April a team of 19 cyclists (plus two support drivers) set off from the Rentokil Initial HQ in Camberley on an intrepid ride to the French capital of Paris. The three-day cycle route saw the group ride down to Portsmouth, where they boarded an overnight ferry to Le Havre. Once they arrived in France, they continued their journey on to Paris, overnighting in the town of Evreux at the end of day two.

The cyclists covered around 70 miles on each of the three days, averaging around seven hours in the saddle. This is the latest in a variety of fundraising activities, for the company’s chosen charity, Malaria No More UK, an organisation that works to save and protect millions of lives from malaria. Rentokil Initial’s fundraising total over the last three years reached the £100k milestone earlier this year, supporting Malaria No More UK’s work to save lives.

James Whiting, Executive Director of Malaria No More UK commented:  “Rentokil Initial staff are without a doubt some of the most imaginative and committed fundraisers involved in the global malaria campaign; from treks, marathons, car washes, ‘Pestaurant’ challenges and now a gruelling bike ride to Paris.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the partnership reaching the milestone of £100,000 of lifesaving funds raised to support Malaria No More UK. Rentokil Initial is a true malaria business champion; our partnership is not only saving lives but is bringing forward the day when we end malaria forever.”

Phill Wood, Managing Director – UK, Ireland, Baltics and Rest of World, Rentokil Initial   added: “As a global leader in pest control and washroom hygiene, Malaria No More UK is an important organisation for Rentokil Initial to support. Malaria, which is spread by mosquitoes, is a preventable and treatable disease, which claims the life of a child every two minutes. We are delighted to contribute to such a great cause and our colleagues look forward to taking part in further challenges in the future.”

Malaria No More UK is part of the global effort to wipe out malaria and there has been phenomenal progress in recent years with deaths from malaria slashed by 60% since 2000. The charity works to save lives by building business partnerships; encouraging governments to place malaria at the top of their international development agendas, and through investing in lifesaving malaria control programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa, currently in Kenya and Namibia.
