Price comparison website KomPear has beaten off stiff competition to win the Hunts Post New Business of the Year Award 2014.

KomPear is a free, web-based service that allows business users the opportunity to compare cleaning service quotes from approved and vetted contractors across the UK.

The inspiration for KomPear was born from the difficulties of locating trusted companies to provide quotes. Co-Founder Karen James has spent 9 years in the cleaning industry and knew that locating a dependable provider who you could trust with access to your business was not easy.

She said: "Although you can do the research yourself, it is time consuming and can be stressful. The KomPear service matches your requirement with approved contractors in your area providing you with copies of their accreditations, insurances and a verified reference from one of their existing customers. Businesses can therefore be reassured about the quality of the companies quoting you for services."

The KomPear service was launched from the kitchen table in 2013 with less than £500 investment. The business model was new to the cleaning services sector and co-founder Karen James commented on the business plan and their plans for the future. She said: “At the outset we were not even sure that this service would be welcomed in the sector. Comparison services of this nature do very well in the B2C arena but would a busy office manager looking to appoint a new cleaning company use it? What we found very quickly is that end users love the idea; it saves them time, money and stress.

“Our success is testament to what can be achieved with a reasonable idea, utilisation of the skills you have and a bucket load of hard work and determination. Rapid growth of the service has resulted in us re-locating to bigger premises and we are now working on security services, a business sector closely aligned to cleaning with many contractors providing both service elements.

“Our current business is national but we see no reason why this model could not be taken into Europe. The future looks bright and there is a lot of work to do!”
